Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after March of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early break points in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
